WR,
He was only at 49% at this point in his tenure.
This was a low point in his tenure. The Iran-Contra scandal was peaking.

Reagan went on to become one of the most iconic presidents in modern history. He helped define conservatism as we know it today. Even now, conservatives look back with fondness for Reagan, while liberals continue to despise the man, but both for the same reasons. Reagan was effective at his job.

Obama, on the other hand, should be at a high point in his approval ratings. Gas is cheap, the markets are setting records, and unemployment is dramatically down. He has already survived his scandals, including Benghazi and the IRS, and he is pursuing his liberal agenda with renewed passion.

Yet his approval ratings are only "soaring" to 50%. Color me unimpressed.
