As far as my end game, I think I have 10-15 years before I need to be too concerned about AAA quality but I do think accumulating KMI shares it important. I have been doing this in the taxable account using the KMI/WS warrant.

It is also nice to have those monthly payers but maybe in 10 years, interest rates will be high enough so I can re-build my bond ladder. My last Treasury Bond matures in 2015 where I had 6% yield. It still could be years before treasury rates are high enough to commit capital for a new income stream.

I like your idea of splitting the portfolio into expendable side (ie source of funds) and keepers. I sort of do that using several watch lists (sells & Buys) but maybe even keeping a precise list like you. You then show the income lost (from a sell) vs the income gained (from a buy). So there is a specific calculated approach to building and cleaning up the portfolio.

The other component are those long term capital gain growers that help build the net asset value of the portfolio. I also like to always add a few of these stocks especially as my time horizon is still long.

When you post your updates and not too much of a problem, show your list of potential sells in once section and keeper in the other.

Still an excellent job over the last 5 years w/o hitting too many land mines.
