It would appear GOP Congressman Christopher Smith (R-NJ) doesn’t feel “homosexual rights” are human rights. Yes, the same Rep. Smith who prides himself on being a crusader of human rights in other realms. He chairs the House Foreign Affairs Africa, Global health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations Subcommittee. So you’d think Smith would be on board with recognizing LGBT rights as human rights, because after all, LGBT individuals are humans, too.

But no, Smith is a strong believer in “traditional marriage” (whatever that means) and believes:

“There are fundamental differences in the United States over the whole LGBT issue.”

During a hearing about the crises going on in Nigeria he clarified himself:

“I am a strong believer in traditional marriage, and do not construe homosexual rights as human rights. Others have a different view and I certainly respect them.”
