Will resetting a computer to it's original condition remove unwanted programs?
One would thinks so, but maybe not. Most major manufacturers send their systems out the door chock full of unwanted crapware. Their favourites seem to be trial versions of real software, good for a limited time, and then demanding money for "activation." As well, they like to include plenty of stuff that drive visits to their website and/or put advertising in front of your face.
Resetting a computer to it's original condition may bring back all of these annoying programs.
A much better idea would be to install the operating system from scratch. That way, you'll get a "pure" system without garbage hitch-hiking along. Of course, this means plenty of work -- a few hours as a minimum.
Once you're done, be sure to create an image of your pristine system. If disaster strikes again, you only lose a few minutes because you're prepared.
If you decide on the "Fresh Start" approach, be sure to save your software keys and certificates first. As well, be sure to save your personal data.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. Gather everything you need BEFORE you start. That awful feeling that comes with realizing that the only copy of some critical code has just been lost is best avoided. |
