Agreed. The # of stations measuring 110F from 1936 does not disprove global warming. As I've mentioned about feedback with water vapor, this limits extreme temperatures. However, the 1936 observations depicts one ridiculously resilient and persistent ridge of high pressure.

Re: global temperature from 1936. The figure below is a snap shot from NCDC web site. U.S. is only ~2% of the Earth's surface, however pre-satellite data show that a huge majority of temperature observations occur in the U.S., especially before 1940. How can one be so confident that 1936 was NOT a warmer year, since the Earth's temperature was derived from stations covering ~2% of the Earth's surface?
