2/6/15 Contest update
It was decades ago, but I still remember one of my all-time quickest “clever” comebacks. I was in Athens watching a parade and a loudspeaker began blaring something unintelligible. My traveling companion asked what was being announced and I, without hesitation, replied: “It’s Greek to me.”
Fast forward and I can only hope someone asks me to explain why both the broad market and biotechs have been bouncing up and down like a fully-inflated football (couldn’t resist, before the blowdown is completely forgotten). My reply will be instantaneous.
Meanwhile, the Contest median had a rough week and closed Friday up 6.32% YTD (vs. up 10.74% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index also had a losing week, closing up 4.09% YTD (vs. up 5.90% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index managed a small gain, closing up .18% YTD (vs. down -2.13% YTD a week ago).
Contest leader, GENE’s portfolio, gained a couple more percent and is now up 48.06% YTD. Second place OLIVIER’s portfolio, up 45.09% YTD, had a big week as its European biotechs rallied, while OHM’s portfolio, up 31.31% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday's close, 37 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 30 of the 51 beating the NBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 5.80%
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: SDI.TO symbol change to EDT.TO (change took place at beginning of year).
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
