Indeed, that's the complaint.

One problem is that adjustments are made on the ASSUMPTION that such things have occurred. It's not proper to just assume it on the basis of a "breakpoint" or a difference from some other stations.

Their methods may not be perfect, and are certainly not immune from critical analysis,

So stop acting like they are.

but that critical analysis should start out from a position of assuming good faith

Really? After the climategate leaked emails showed bad faith?

and with an understanding of what exactly has been done.

In the absence of an explanation of each adjustment to a station's record, we can't have that.

The problem is that (with the exception of the newly created Climate Reference Network), there is really no such thing as a pure and unadulterated temperature record. Temperature stations in the U.S. are mainly operated by volunteer observers

The raw data is data. The ONLY data that exists. If it's bad, you can't fix it by statistical adjustments made by a mindless algorithm made by institutions run by people who are on record as being agenda driven activists.
