FSI International Announces Creation of the Office of the President
MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1997--FSI International, Inc. (Nasdaq: FSII - news), today announced it established an office of the president and implemented certain organizational changes as the Company takes the next step in its strategic initiative to divisionalize.
The office of the president will include Dr. Benjamin J. Sloan as chief operating officer, Benno G. Sand as chief administrative officer, and Joel A. Elftmann as acting chief business development officer. Elftmann will also retain his positions as chairman and chief executive officer of the company.
''These organizational changes will help the Company focus on product development, process development and support programs to meet our customer needs and strengthen our leadership position,'' said Elftmann. ''The Company expects to fill the chief business development officer position by the end of the first quarter of 1998.''
Prior to this announcement, Sloan was executive vice president of FSI and president of the Microlithography Division. He joined FSI in 1992 from Texas Instruments, where he served in various research and management positions for 24 years. As chief operating officer, Sloan will have responsibility for all division operations, technology development, and procurement for the Company.
Sand was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer of FSI. As chief administrative officer, he will assume the added responsibility for the management of the Company's information systems, total quality management and facilities functions. He joined the Company in 1982.
In 1992, FSI established a divisionalization strategic initiative and reorganized the Company with a focus on three core technologies: surface conditioning, microlithography and chemical management. In 1997, the Surface Conditioning and Microlithography Divisions moved into new, dedicated facilities in Chaska, Minn., and Allen, Texas, respectively, thereby completing a key step in the strategy.
''The final major step in our divisionalization initiative is to integrate materials management, manufacturing engineering and manufacturing from the current corporate function into the three divisions,'' said Elftmann. ''These changes formalize an organization structure that provides more autonomy to our divisions, allowing for a quicker response to our customers' needs.''
