The point is that taxpayers don't need to be in the picture. At all. If WR wants to put solar panels on his house that is just fine. Taxpayers ought not be called on to help pay for an extremely expensive form of energy for this guy because he wants it.

There are concerns over long-term environmental issues, but these can eventually be addressed with more money. It just shouldn't be my money or my kids money. It should be whoever wants to spend it, or companies that stand to benefit from sales, whatever. Not taxpayers.

This isn't complicated. It just isn't something tax money should be used for.
