(BXE-T) Two U.S. investors now own a more than a 10% share of Bellatrix Exploration. Bellatrix is best known for a series of recent management missteps including an unsuccessful equity offering and the unusual way it decided to finance a gas processing plant.

BXE it has reduced its capital expenditure budget and cut by 8 per cent its annual production.

Tuesday it was revealed that Seth Klarman, a value investor who founded the Boston investment manager Baupost Group, has purchased an 11.4-per-cent share of the company. That news that was filed as an alternative monthly report on SEDAR caused Bellatrix's share price to leap 50 cents to close Wednesday at $3.29. In its filing, Baupost said the securities were purchased in the "ordinary course of business for investment purposes only and not with the purpose of exercising control or direction over Bellatrix." Baupost may have bought its interest near the end of last year and is now making the necessary filings.

Two months ago, Orange Capital's Daniel Lewis and Steven Pully were made directors after Orange accumulated 11.4 per cent of Bellatrix.
