"The Battle of Britain" is one of my favorite all time movies. I think every major British movie star was in it.

One thing that stands out to me was that a major German error was not having drop tanks on the . Messerschmidts. They had very little loiter time over Britain. Also, British pilots shot down that survived were back in the war the next day. The German pilots shot down were prisoners.

I have never seen any long article on it, but I have read remarks about our bombing campaign over Germany to the point that we knew we would get terrible losses on our bombers but that it would tie down and wear out the German's pilots and plane supply.

I think the major point about Churchill leading the fight is that he was the focal point for the "never surrender" side of British discussion about dealing with Hitler. He really was "the man who saved England."

If Hitler had declared neutrality and offered to help negotiate with Japan after Pearl, I don't think FDR could have got a declaration of war against him passed by Congress. That would have ended Britain's war. Without our lend lease help to the Soviets, I don't think Russia could have beaten Germany alone. With less pressure from us, Hitler could have supported Rommel better and he might have taken Egypt. That for sure would have ended the war with Britain.

Even as it was, India was a near run thing for the Brits. A lot of Indians loved to see the Japanese knock out Singapore and were ready for a deal. They would not have continued to fight for Britain. With the Suez closed by Hitler, Britain would have lost their Far East possessions in 42.
