It seems to be a theme in Chinese culture with the men either being weak or badass/corrupted players. Who knows what the reality is.
There's a stereotype where Chinese men these days are submissive to controlling wives. It's slightly different from the stereotypes of Korean and Japanese men, but in all cases, none of these stereotypes are particularly flattering.

Then again, the stereotypes of Asian women are much, much worse.

In that sense, "Tiger Mom" isn't bad at all. Conjures up images of Phylicia Rashad from The Cosby Show. Well, sort of. I predict that Constance Wu will be lauded for that.
