“unchecked market fundamentalism can devour the social capital essential for the long-term dynamism of capitalism itself.”

Unchecked market fundamentalism, as an actual policy, existing today, any time in the recent past, or any time in the near future, is an utter fantasy. Even if it would cause the problems that Carney thinks it would cause, (which is to say the least debatable), if it were actually implemented, it would still be a subject that justifies little or no concern since it isn't going to be implemented. For at least the next decade or three we might as well worry about the destruction caused by rampaging dragons.

Government acting directly to limit competition and opportunity, is OTOH an actual current reality, and one that tends to grow the larger and more involved government gets.
