Bill, regarding cancer, you should do a little research(if you haven't already) on iodine. First, I'd check to make sure you aren't low. If that isn't practical then I'd just go ahead and take it. According to what I've been seeing on Youtube presentations and the NIH site, iodine deficiency is associated with cancer incidence rates just like vitamin D, if not more so. Iodine also, anecdotely, seems to help with sleep - if you read the reviews on iherb or Amazon.

I'm starting on Tuesday at 1.8 mg/day. I'm flying blind here so I won't bother to mention what brand or type of iodine. I will say that this liquid 1 oz concoction at the aforementioned dose will last for 600 days at a cost of $13. Not bad.

To get the same dose using iodized salt would require something like 3 tablespoons - which is out of the question.

It's thought that the low cancer rates in Japan can be attributed to their high intakes of iodine. You could probably find kelp in the stores there since there are so many Japanese on the islands. That stuff is loaded with iodine as well as other trace and ultra trace minerals. Question is; is it also loaded with the bad minerals like mercury.

According to Dr. Brownstein, 96% of Americans are either deficient or insufficient in iodine.

Just found this site which graphically depicts worldwide cancer rates(incidence and mortality) for overall cancer and for individual types of cancer. Mouse over the individual countries to get the hard numbers. What's up with Uruguay? An epidemiologist could have a field day with this information.
