Why we fear and admire the military sniper
Since long before ‘American Sniper,’ we’ve had deeply conflicted feelings about the man who shoots to kill

Since, and including the Revolutionary War, we have always had expert snipers. If our longer range, weapons systems were not so improved we would still have them in abundance.

One of the earliest and best American snipers was Sergeant Timothy Murphy who served in Morgan's Riflemen.

At about 1.5 bullets per kill, sniping is still the low cost solution.
One of the key reasons SEALS and SF use snipers is their Teams often/usually operate well forward of indirect fire support range.
