Separate Vacations For Valentine’s Day: Michelle In Aspen With Girls, While Barack In CA With Golf Buddies

It has been Barack and Michelle’s Valentine’s Day/President’s Day tradition to spend their time apart the past few years.

We reported earlier on the President being in California with his golfing buddies for the weekend. Well, that doesn’t mean that Michelle stayed home. She has spent the last few years in Aspen with the girls for the President’s Day weekend.

She and the girls arrived on Friday to virtually no media coverage. Just a spot in the Aspen local that she would be arriving, sans Barack, and a tweet out from someone noting their arrival.

The Aspen Daily News noted today that their motorcade was held up by an accident this morning:

It was virtually the only hiccup during the trip for the Obamas, who skied Saturday at Buttermilk, said Pitkin County Sheriff’s deputy Jesse Steindler. The sheriff’s department assisted the Secret Service with three to six deputies at any given time, including driving the lead and tail vehicles in the motorcade.

“It was very uneventful,” Steindler said of the Obama family’s fourth straight Presidents Day weekend visit to the Aspen area. “It was very easy duty.”

Obama and her daughters arrived in Aspen on Friday afternoon. Steindler declined to say where they stayed. In past years, they have spent the weekend at the Tiehack home of Jim and Paula Crown, owners of the Aspen Skiing Co.
