I agree with your theme in this thread, or more to the point would appreciate your additional mellowing input. One part of reality in the tech stocks, some are serious longterm winners. How does one recognize these in the beginning? A good question, in the meantime most stocks cycle with changes that occur in the global economic environment. It is helpful to avoid these downturns. I believe one needs both a shorterm and longterm strategy of selecting stocks.

A simple and recent case in point is the current debate on the CY thread. I want to hold long having found the bottom, some say sell and take profits. It's tempting to take profits the last few weeks when they occur. It's been a very interesting market, buying (example) Aug $80 stocks for $18, $50 for $13, the story goes on.

When this period passes one much have narrowed down his longterm holds, otherwise continued heavy trading will work against, because, well the rules are constantly changing.
