Let’s roll the tape back to November 2014 when McConnell issued a press release regarding Obama’s forthcoming executive amnesty order:
If President Obama acts in defiance of the people and imposes his will on the country, Congress will act. We’re considering a variety of options. But make no mistake. When the newly elected representatives of the people take their seats, they will act. – Mitch McConnell 11/20/2014
Well it looks like a mistake was made. Because there are numerous reports that Congress is acting, but to fully fund the executive order that was “in defiance of the people.”
While we are looking at McConnell quotes, we would be remiss not to bring back this one regarding the effort to repeal Obamacare:
The Chief Justice said it's a tax. Taxes are clearly what we call reconcilable. That's the kind of measure that can be pursued with 51 votes in the Senate. If I'm the leader of the majority next year, I commit to the American people that the repeal of Obamacare will be job one. -- Mitch McConnell 7/1/2012
Now that McConnell is Majority Leader and no longer needs voters his tune has changed.
And then there is the news this week that the Senate parliamentarian may rule that Obamacare repeal can’t be pursued with 51 votes. The piece has one interesting tidbit referring to McConnell:
The Kentucky Republican has also refused to commit to using reconciliation on ObamaCare. Last fall, McConnell appeared to downplay expectations on a 51-vote strategy, telling Fox News that it would take 60 votes and a presidential signature to nullify the healthcare law.
Now that McConnell is Majority Leader and no longer needs voters his tune has changed.
What we have here is classic evidence of RINO Rules #1 and #8, Bait-&-Switch and Preemptive Surrender.
