2/27/15 Contest update
With Dr. Spock gone, the Department of Homeland Security unfunded and the Contest median at an acrophobia-inducing 2015 high, not to mention the approaching Ides of March, for some it may be a nervous weekend.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 16.92% YTD (vs. up 14.60% YTD a week ago), while there were smaller weekly gains for both the Nasdaq Biotech Index, up 11.08% YTD (vs. up 10.66% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index, up 4.80% YTD (vs. up 4.64% YTD a week ago). Starting this week I began to track the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (Yahoo symbol is ^SPSIBI), which closed Friday up 15.00% YTD.
With its European biotechs continuing to gain ground, OLIVIER’s portfolio, up 48.24% YTD, remained Contest leader. A boost from ARQL helped MCBIO’s portfolio, up 45.72% YTD, move into second place and GENE’s portfolio, up 44.32% YTD, slipped to third place.
At Friday's close, a whopping 49 of the 51 Contest portfolios were in the black with 33 beating the NBI and 29 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 14.54%
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: NPSP buyout by Shire for $46. NPSP was only in ROBO’s portfolio and I used the 2/27/15 closing prices for the reallocation.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
