He is not a news reporter. There is certainly no similarity between O'Reilly's job and Williams. At all. I don't know what he was doing in Argentina.

But O'Reilly did not "embellish and make himself" part of the story. His comments are close enough that it could simply be a matter of perspective. Williams, on the other hand, lied. There is a big difference. Furthermore, Williams repeatedly told the lie in settings like the Letterman show, and the lie got bigger each time. O'Reilly did make the comment multiple times, but generally in passing -- only trying to point out that he had once had this story which led the CBS news and that he knew what it was like to be in one of these areas. I'm sure it felt like a war zone to him. I'm sure Williams does not know what it feels like to be in a chopper being fired upon.

Yes, there are huge and basic differences between their stories. I'm not condoning either, but O'Reilly's is at least reasonably justifiable as his own interpretation vs. some of his haters' (and they were haters) interpretations. Williams just liked like hell.

So, there is a radical difference and O'Reilly lost no credibility at all, while Williams lost it all.
