I don't see any difference between the following two items:

a) O'reilly claiming to be repoerting from a war zone while in Argentina covering the Falklands War, when referring to a riot that broke out as a result of the war, and,

b) Barack Obama claiming to have been a professor of Constitutional law.

They are precisely the same sorts of event. A man trying to make his weak resume sound stronger than it is.

I do not know whether that is Williams' motivation or not. It is a harder case.
