Merkel and the other European leaders don't want to push Putin too far because he is the President of their UTILITY COMPANY...... If he wants to shut off their natural gas then it's off.... What would YOU do if you were Merkel? With all the sanctions and Russia's messed up economy, Putin needs their gas money as much and probably more than they need the gas. Merkel and Hollande have been playing kisskiss* with Putin for years, getting lots of fat Russian contracts for their German and French industries. That's the real reason they are playing pussycat with Putin.
