MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1997--OPTi Inc. announced today that it is shipping its latest mobile core logic chipset, FireStar Plus, for NEC Electronics' Mobio NX mini note.

Powered by the Intel(R) low power 120 MHz Pentium(R) Processor, the Mobio NX is very small (28.5mm width), and very light (790g weight). Key features include hard drive 1.6GB, PC card slot type II, 6 inch STN color (640X480), 4Mb/ps IrDA i/f, and ACPI support.

This new mini note manufactured for the Japanese market represents the ultimate in high performance, long battery life, compact size, and light weight, enabled by the OPTi FireStar Plus single chip solution. To date, it is proving to be very popular with the Japanese business market.

"OPTi's mobile core logic is the choice to fully support the wide range of mobile socket 7 CPU's now available," said Steve Wu, senior vice president of OPTi's Systems Logic Division. "OEMs who enjoyed success through their FireStar programs this year can continue to reap the benefits of their investment by upgrading to FireStar Plus for next year's designs, vastly expanding their choice in CPU and reducing risk."

The FireStar Plus 64-bit mobile chip is the market's leading core logic solution to support the Intel(R) low power Pentium(R), AMD, and Cyrix CPU's. FireStar Plus combines high performance features with space-saving design capabilities and advanced power management for mobile and embedded applications.

Following in the footsteps of the successful FireStar chip, the FireStar Plus solution is a pin-compatible upgrade to FireStar that full Microsoft(R) ACPI universal power management support. When combined with the integral OPTi standard power management unit, this solution can give far better battery life than other comparable chip set.
