Tessco is doing good. I think their contract with Andrew (ANDW) is done the end of this year. They had some kind of war over products. Most of what I've seen in the field is Andrew parts. They were working around the clock on orders this past summer.

The biggest problem with the PCS companies, and contractors, is youth and inexperience. It's hard to know what a good job looks like if they haven't been trained to see one. Most of them seem to be in their 20's and 30's and haven't spent much time in the field.

System performance includes installing the connectors properly between the transmission line and the antennas. Most steel stackers don't have the experience in electronics to make a good continuity connection. They also crimp the line while installing, and sometimes it can't be seen visually. The test done after installation is called "line sweeping". It gives the readings needed to tell if there are "shorts", 'opens" or VSWR problems. For the end user it's dropped calls while traveling thru cells. In cellular, it's also noise on the line.

Yes, HP does sell test equipment. It's expensive and needs good techs to run it. The problem seems to be decifering the results of the sweeping printout. Our line sweeping school, a spin-off from our engineering & construction division, is hopping with students from AT&T, Sprint, Cellular One, etc. etc. Hope this info helps.
