Pat and Doc, my impression is that, despite all these shouting of suffering by many Asian countries, a major part of the currency devaluation is because of competitive devaluation. In other words, they devalued the currency on purpose to gain competitive advantage. At least Tailand started that way and Taiwan did that way on purpose. Only the magnitude of this round of devaluation is not on purpose. These countries probably hoped for a grdual slide, but, well they can't control it once Mr. Market let the door opens.
The Asian situation affects the general sentiment of the market, especially tech sector. Other than that, CKFR is immune from Asia.
Doc is probably right, in 6 months to two years, there may be another boom in Asia, led by export industry. The side effect of that boom may be record high inflation, though. But eventually, demand for U.S. goods might be strong, especially for infrastructure and capital goods, hopefully computers and CKFR included - while CKFR may be ready to go far east at that time. |
