Record Average Temperature For February In Connecticut
March 2, 2015 12:55 PM

connecticut.cbslocal.com

(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) -
February will go down in the record books as being the coldest month ever in Connecticut. The average temperature for last month was 16.1 degrees.

That topped the old mark of 16.5 set in 1934.

WTIC chief meteorologist Joe Furey says a ridge of high pressure banked itself to the north, stayed there, and sent cold air streaming down to the lower 48 states.

In the Northeast, that ridge combined with what’s known as the southern branch jet, bringing cities like Boston record snowfalll for the month.

Going into March, Furey says there are signs that milder air will begin working its way in, possibly by the middle of the month.
