To all,

What can you say ... 10 cents this quarter .... whew!! GS knows something about memory prices that the rest of the world doesn't ...Achilles updates today ... 16 Mbit at $2.30 and 64 Mbit at (!!) $11 even ... looks like we might get crossover in next month or two (MU a little behind the curve in that case)...

Last quarter (Q1) they shipped about 90 million units at an ASP of $4.88 for total semi revenue of $440M. Operating costs were $415M ... so they had an operating profit in the semi business of $25M (this includes about $7M on chips shipped to MUEI)... current pricing, if we take $2.30 and give them a 20% premium because they're mostly SDRAM now, is about $2.76 ... costs will likely be up this Q, say $420M ... so they have to ship 152 million units, at current prices, to break even this quarter ... this is a wee bit higher growth than they indicated on the confercall ... remember they still have a bottleneck testing SDRAM ...

If one was of a cynical cast of mind, you might wonder if GS's BUY is to pave the way for another issue as Tim suggested or maybe to create an exit for some large holders (woof! woof!)

regards, Mike
