3/6/15 Contest update
Was the $108.30 I shelled out for some AbbVie Synthroid last week the final few bucks AbbVie needed for their Pharmacyclics $21 billion buyout? I guess we’ll never know for sure. Meanwhile the week ended on one of those “good news is bad news” Fridays, with a better than expected employment report bashing bonds and stocks and taking back some of the PCYC biotech bump.
Still, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up a very impressive 20.41% YTD (vs. up 16.92% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 12.78% YTD (vs. up 11.08% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index was up 20.38% YTD (vs. up 15.00% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index, closed up 4.04% YTD (vs. up 4.80% YTD a week ago).
We have a new Contest leader! Holding 20% allocations in BLUE, CAPR and OMER, IMAN’s portfolio, up 51.53% YTD, vaulted into first place. GENE’s portfolio, up 48.86% YTD, moved back to second place and OHM’s portfolio, up 47.87% YTD, moved back to third place.
At Friday's close, 49 of the 51 Contest portfolios were still in the black with a phenomenal 38 beating the NBI and 26 beating the SPSIBI. The 206 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 17.61%
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for buyouts & splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe & fun weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
