The Simon Wiesenthal Center, called into question today the appointment of Robert Malley to a key position in the White House.

Associate Dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper told The Algemeiner. “Given Mr. Malley’s previous comments and actions related to the Middle East process, Israel and the Palestinians, there is concern how unfolding events in the area, including moves by Hezbollah and Hamas, will be treated by the Administration.”

Malley made headlines during the Clinton administration for meetings he held with the terrorist organization Hamas. These meetings later prompted Malley’s public resignation as an advisor to the 2008 Obama presidential campaign.

Malley is also known for a 2001 article in The New York Review of Books considered a defense of Yasser Arafat following the breakdown of the Camp David peace negotiations.

National Security Advisor Susan Rice defended the appointment, calling Malley one of most respected experts on the Middle East.
