DirectConnect. What happened? This same Sunday Times Feature also recommended the Gravis GrIP and GamePad Pro for the multiplayer gamepad category!? This is also too bad. ThrustMaster's proprietary and brilliantly named (not a Microsoft trademark) DirectConnect also was simply not marketed, at all. The Rage3D with DirectConnect supports 4 players simultaneously. No one knows this and the GrIP is still taking this category. The Grip is two+ years old and requires purchasing a $100 peripheral unit in addition to the GamePad(s). DirectConnect mitigates this requirement through theoretically superior software technology, which requires the user to merely purchase the Rage3D. A superior stopgap until (U)SB is actually (U)niversal. Windows 98 scheduled for Apr-Jun '98 quarter delivery and then that much longer (1-2 years+) for everyone to upgrade from Win95 to Win98... What a great (re: dominating market share concomitant with brand equity, perceived value,...) marketing campaign(s) DirectConnect, (and Millennium Inceptor, Rage 3D...) could have been for ThrustMaster...Given these now consistent patterns across several products/technologies it appears TMSR either has no confidence in these products/technologies or actually does not believe [they] are as superior competitive advantages as they actually are, in our opinion. Irreversible/lost opportunity costs?
