I recently read Bernard Nathanson's book 'The Hand of God.' Nathanson was one of the three cofounders of NARAL. He says he performed tens of thousands of abortions personally, but turned anti-abortion in the late 1970's. I knew that he'd become a Christian, but found out that came decades after his shift on abortion. He cited ultrasound technology as a key reason for his about face. "When ultrasound ... confronted me with the sight of the embryo in the some, I simply lost my faith in abortion on demand." Furthermore, he relates that in 1984, he asked a friend who was still performing abortions to put an ultrasound on the mother and tape it. "He did, and when looked at the tapes with me in an editing studio, he was so affected he never did another abortion."
