John- If you look at the symbol for Justice, it is a lady wearing
a robe, blindfolded, holding scales which are balanced. If Microsoft
tipped the scales in their favor by acting unlawfully then they are
required to spend whatever it takes to put the scales back to even.
That's not Alice in Wonderland, that's the way our laws work.
If others are harmed by Microsofts unlawful actions, say developers,
OEMs, or customers, they are able to bring suit against Microsoft
to recover their losses. Everybody carries this liability credit
card around. Most people never use it. Other do and they are
really surprised at the size of the bill they ran up when it comes
time to pay.
