In the late 1980's I audited a company that was sold before the audit was completed. Much to the surprise of the new owners, the audit adjustments cut the pre-audit income by 75%. Litigation ensued. When the case finally when to trial four years later, I testified about the audit adjustments. It was a bench trial and the federal judge did not understand the concept of audit adjustments. The new owners lost the case. Since then, I have no longer been shocked by the absence of corporate responsibility.
