Which reminds me......In ancient Egypt, a Nile-o-meter (kind of a well type structure) was used to measure how high the river got during rainy or flood season.....this told the rulers how far the flood waters extended over the fields and therefore how much area was plantable and therefore taxable.... Clever, huh?
