Bad knees, eh? It seems to go with the industry. Many of the cellular installers have retired and many of the young climbers weren't born with common sense. We have a very strict company drug policy that knocks out most of the applicants. Our insurance company requires good driving records ... there goes the rest of the applicants. We have our own training school but seem to train too good. Three of our supervisors went with PrimeCo and three to Fluor Daniel Telecom. They can pay double what tower installation companies can squeek out of a job.

Yes, weatherproofing is a problem. We usually find water in the line when the system fails. Andrew has a good weatherproofing kit that our crews stock in their trucks. The failed systems usually have electrical tape with a coating of Scotch-Kote. This hasn't been used since cable TV installs.

You might want to check out the new sweep gear from Wiltron. It's called "Site Master". The package is smaller than a laptop and easy enough for the tower techs to learn. They can sweep, make repairs, and leave the site the same day. I think the system is around $7,000 and comes with its own software for the laptop. They're selling like hot cakes.
