Digital Ally, Key Taser Rival, Surges On Earnings

Digital Ally (NASDAQ: DGLY) shares jumped over 15% in after-hours trading after the wearable-camera maker reported a hefty 55% jump in year-over-year fourth-quarter revenue.

The company said Q4 earnings swung to a profit of 5 cents a share from a 50-cent per-share loss during the same quarter last year. Revenue soared 55% to $5.4 million in the "strongest three-month period in the past twelve quarters," said the company.

Shares had already closed up 6.6% during Monday's regular session on news that it had been awarded a patent for its LIDAR (laser detection and ranging) technology, propping it up above its 50-day line.

Stationary LIDAR speed guns use a laser pulse to calculate vehicle speed, but according to Digital Ally, their narrow beams prevent them from being used in motion, i.e. while mounted to police cars.

Monday's patented LIDAR "allows moving law enforcement vehicles to accurately measure vehicle speeds by 'sweeping' a beam across a field of view at varying heights to detect the speed of a plurality of objects, such as automobiles, at the same time," said the company, which calls it a "milestone" for the law enforcement industry.
