Watch that potpourri on the stove trick. When we were trying to sell our first house, I decided to follow some "tricks of the trade" I read in some real estate rag. Filled the house with fresh flowers, scrubbed the toothbrushes 'til they shone and set apples bubbling in a cinnamon broth on the woodstove, to permeate our perfect home with the scent of apple pie. I got so caught up in hiding dirty clothes and stuff under the beds that I forgot about my simmering potpourri. It burned horribly, wafting black burnt pie smoke through the home just as the prospective buyers arrived. They were most impressed.
