Tol's only fighting about whether it's 90% or 97 %. I think everybody will be willing toaccept 90% in exchange for climate action.

Tol didn't like the question, so he didn't like the answer. He wants to ask a different question.

@Fergus
Sorry for not answering.

I think Cook should have limited his survey to those studies that estimate the equilibrium climate sensitivity.

There are three such recent studies. Andrews et al. (2012, GRL) survey physical estimates. Annan and Hargreaves (2011, ClCh) survey statistical estimates. Rohling et al. (2012, Nature) survey palaeo-estimates.

These surveys find disagreement about the size of the climate sensitivity, but robustly reject the hypothesis that it is near zero.

Of course, there is no consensus on sensitivity. There is a conference, tho.

Some of you will be aware that there is a workshop on Climate Sensitivity this week at Schloss Ringberg in southern Germany. The topics to be covered include how sensitivity is defined (and whether it is even meaningful (Spoiler, yes it is)), what it means, how it can be constrained, what the different flavours signify etc. There is an impressive list of attendees with a very diverse range of views on just about everything, and so I am looking forward to very stimulating discussions - See more at: realclimate.org
