About control, some of your examples could be put into damage control box. Ups it is still 'control'.
But generally, control could be categorised in the two main boxes, self control and 'others' control over me. First one is OK, second one is intrusion.
Btw, it is happening to me the same about subjeckmarks not staying too long in 'old' clasic mode. And yes, best solution would be, that we could permanently set it in the settings. But that way we would take some of control from IS. SI don't want us to use it old way. SI want you to use 'new features'.
Proper way to use browsers now a day is to clean all crap from cache and temporally folders, including cookies as often as possible. Good way to do it, is to have set up auto cleaning on browser exit. If you do this, you will need to keep re-set your settings into old, classic way seeing subjectmarks.
You may decide to keep all the crap on your computer (thank you SI for forcing me into this) just for the sake so your setting stay longer. But this too don't work too good as long as you use more than one device. I noticed if I access SI forums through my Ipad, my subjectmarks are re-set to 'new', ugly, childish view. (my opinion). So I need to reset them again. If I now access SI forums from my computer, the same thing happen again. I need to reset settings again. Very annoying!
And that is the whole point. If it is annoying enough to you, you will eventually cave in and just keep setting to new, ugly, childish view. SI win and you were eventually forced into what you didn't want.
And as numbers of people who give up resetting increases, SI can show statistic how many users use new way. Like they had a chance to chose freely what they want... Control. Shame on you SI.

Now, part of the reason for this Ipad/computer thing my be my security settings. (blocking, cleaning....) Some other users with pc/ipad combo may not experience the same hassle. But I try to have settings the way that are a little bit more secure for me if possible. And if it takes to lower security guards so I can have better SI experience, then shame on you SI. |
