Gays are looking for a reason to protest and it gave them one. It is more about furthering the gay movement than it is about the law.

While Pence, et al., are correct that tolerance must be a two-way street, it was a stupid, unforced error. There is already federal law on the books with the same effect. He stepped in it for no good reason.

Ultimately, the federal courts will decide whether religious freedom trumps the rights of gays. Perhaps we've reached a time in America where religious freedom can be dispensed with but I don't think so; most Americans continue to be fairly religious. This, of course, varies over time with economic circumstances and difficult economic times tend to generate more "believers"; the coming 20-30 years ought to make America look like Mecca.

So, no, I have no particular insight into the war between homos and religious fanatics.
