Alpine Introduces World's First DVD 5.1 Channel Mobile Multimedia System with Dolby Digital
LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1997--In collaboration with Dolby Laboratories, Alpine Electronics, a leader in high-quality car audio and navigation products, will debut the first-ever DVD 5.1 channel car-audio system utilizing Dolby Digital at the 1998 Winter Consumer Electronics Show in its booth at the Sands Convention Center, Jan. 8-11.
To celebrate introducing DVD and Dolby Digital into its mobile multimedia platform, Alpine will showcase a working prototype vehicle with this system at the show and announce production schedules and new product information at that time.

In addition, the vehicle will also feature Alpine's car navigation system with real-time traffic information. Back seat passengers will also be able to play Nintendo N64 format video games on the system.
Alpine's introduction of DVD and Dolby Digital car audio is expected to be a big boost for the DVD format. More than 40 percent of Alpine's specialist dealers are car-audio-only retailers. This will expose the DVD video format and Dolby Digital to a very large group of new retailers and customers who would not likely go looking for it in a hi-fi retail store.
