Glenayre And Unicom Paging Launch Next Phase Of Nationwide Network In China CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre and Unicom China Paging Corporation have launched the third phase of Unicom's nationwide paging network in China. Located in Fujian province, Xiamen is the first of 21 cities in which Unicom plans to launch high speed paging services by the end of January 1998. Glenayre is providing complete FLEX-based 280 MHz paging systems for all 21 cities.
The companies jointly announced the launch in a ceremony held at Unicom's office in Xiamen. The project stems from a total of $6.2 million in contracts Glenayre received from Unicom between June and September 1997.

The 21 systems include the GL-3000 Wireless Messaging, Switch GL-T8321 Transmitter, GL-N2000 Operations Management Center (OMC), as well as the GL-C2000 Controller and GL-C2200 Alarm Monitor Unit, which provide over-the- air alarm reporting from the base stations.
Located throughout 13 provinces, the 21 cities are: Xiamen, Beijing, Ningbo, Quanzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Changchun, Guiyang, Kunming, Zhengzhou, Chengsha, Haikou, Taiyuan, Hefei and Daqing.
Unicom China Paging Corporation is a subsidiary of China Unicom, which is one of only two telecommunication service providers in China. China Unicom has licenses for paging, GSM and fixed network services.
