The ponds are off-stream. Without them, high water would be a bit higher when it rains, but the creek won't flow for longer in the season than it does now, and there would be no near-by sources of water for the fire fighters to use.



Also, no water for the critters, from deer to bear to herons hunting frogs, for about 4 months.
