Hi Bob,
I appreciate your points on freedom and personal liberty, but what about the freedom and personal liberty of a man to live in a society where he can choose what he and his family are routinely exposed to?
For example, if a man wants to protect himself and his family from exposure to homosexuality, same-sex marriage, illicit drugs, liquor, pornography, gambling, Black culture/crime, Islamic culture/crime, and illegal immigrant culture/crime, what is the solution? I would argue that the solution already exists in the First Amendment, which includes a freedom of association tenet, but the government suppresses and outlaws the First Amendment in many ways.
I think this issue goes to the core of why national borders, cultures, and religions exists. All of those exist for reasons, namely that people want to group together and bond with other like-minded people. If we are "forced" to live in a society amid everything that is not representative of our personal culture, there is a major problem; the kind that invariably leads to war.
For example, why is it such a big deal for Israel and Palestine to have their own, separate states? Why are both sides completely committed to that objective, with plenty of supporters on both sides? Why can't each side simply do that what they want with no limits. Isn't that the same as asking why druggies cannot just do what they want with no limits?
Again, I do not care if someone takes drugs or smokes weed, but I don't want it in my town, county or state. How are the two sides reconciled? You may draw the line at your front door, whereas many people may draw the line at their town, county, state or country. How do we resolve these issues peacefully, without war? |
