So on cases where there is no doubt about who did it, like the marathon bomber, what's the problem with executing him?

"I didn't willfully do it. It was my brother who made me. I had a bad childhood, I was brainwashed, etc., etc."

That's the thing about the permanent nature of capital punishment. These days, we want to be 100% sure. Even if we know who did it, there's always the "insanity" argument, or the argument over whether he did it out of his own free will.

I personally have no doubt that the Boston marathon bomber did it out of his own free will. Of course he was insane, but then again, anyone who wants to commit such a despicable act has got to be insane, so to me, that question is irrelevant.

So now do we kill him, or do we just let him rot in a jail cell? If it were up to me, I would choose the latter. No reason to hasten his death except out of sheer vengeance and maybe a fear that he'll escape or whatever.
