Bill,

1) What's the difference between killing them at the age of 45 and letting them die at the age of 75? The chance that they might escape?

2) Hanging used to be an acceptable punishment for lesser crimes. Times change.

3) If the costs greatly outweigh the benefits, then what's the point?

4) The lives that the killer took are already lost. Killing the killer won't get them back. Like I said, the only risk is what might happen if the killer escapes custody or is otherwise set free before he passes away in prison.
