Spoke with my rheumatologist today about Synvisc. (I am not a candidate, I'm a stockholder) He attended the conference and stated that the products "in this category" appear to have great possiblities for success.
He seemed to think that Synvisc has not been as actively marketed as some of the other HA products.
He also said one major problem discussed among the MDs was that the injections are painful when going into a dry knee ( I think that's what he called it-----meaning not swollen). Since "dry knees" are found in osteoarthritis mostly, this seems important to the success of this product. I asked about local anesthetic and he said he was reluctant to use 2 injections----more chance of infection etc. He did mention injecting into a different part of the
knee so maybe the pain problem is not such a problem.
Has anyone else heard of this? BTW if someone can post this to the SI board, I'd be grateful.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Sally
