You are arguing with the facts.

No one said anything about "outspending". We have always outspent. But SDI was part of a calculated plan to end the Cold War, as was the military buildup. There really is not any credible argument about this subject; it is well documented; even extreme liberals now agree (although they differ in some details):

Gorby can receive some credit, however, there is a question of how much credit he legitimately should receive since Reagan gave him no choice in the matter, whatsoever.

You just don't know the history. There are a number of excellent books on this subject and I don't know whether it is still available but if you can find it, "Ronald Reagan and His Quest to Abolish Nuclear Weapons" by Lettow. While this history actually is focused on Reagan's understanding of what was necessary to eliminate the nuclear threat from USSR, it provides excellent coverage of the Cold War as a lesser topic. I would recommend it if you can find it.

It is important to keep in mind that during the Carter era, nuclear proliferation was a principal issue. Reagan understood what was necessary to end it and the Left just never did. Still doesn't, as the current Iran fiasco shows. Reagan's strategy worked, perfectly, and ending the Cold War was a great side benefit. That is to take nothing away from Reykjavík.
