Craig, I didn't read that blurb quite the same way I understand Tim did. I didn't see, for example, a claim that they reduced fiber dispersion, but rather the signal distortion caused by fiber dispersion.. Another facet of their offering was that they have somehow severely reduced the noise level. The net effect of the combination of three things: higher power, narrower line widths, and reduced noise, was a much higher SNR (or Carrier to Noise ratio). Given that achievement, their claim of WDM signals out beyond 1000 Km seems within the realm of possibility to me.
Surely these guys have run some tests before putting out their claim in print? The potential customer will have their offering for lunch if it's completely BS.
Tim sound like he has an excellent handle on the technical characteristics of fiber...and the associated optical equipment.. but I'm thinking he might have read the article a bit different than was intended by the authors... OR, Maybe not <gg> I'm going to check further in any case... I'm kinda obsolete on fiber, so could use the update anyway... :-) dlo
