The mother doesn't offer advice. She doesn't present theories. She tells the story of how the daughter who was supposed to be just like her went from "I'm a boy" at 2 to actually trying to hurt herself because she was in the wrong body ("Why did God do this to me?" ) to actually beginning the transition process, at which point he was happy and laughing for the first time in his life. Also the story of the parents' journey from "Oh no, you aren't" to father's "I couldn't ask for a better son".
